Dr. Milam’s best seller, ‘Under the Influence’ has over a million copies sold
I have first hand knowledge of Lakeside -Milam in Kirkland. I attended all classes and all visits possible at this facility for a family member that we did an intervention on. I drove him there and picked him up when he graduated, I met with the staff that was taking care of him regularly. This place saved my loved ones life. The counselors and teachers are professionals there, they care deeply about your addicted son/daughter/loved one. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone that chooses to live instead of die from hard drugs. — Lee B.
*This place saved my LIFE….I drank for twenty eight years, in which I thought was acceptable. Only fo find myself drinking every night to black out, losing my job, my wife of eighteen years, my house and everything I owned.
Two years later I have no desire or thought of ever drinking another drop of alcohol, I have a great job, I have great friends, I’m working out three nights a week, and doing activities that I thought I never had time for. –Randy H.

LMRC provides moderately priced adult residential services. Residential programs at LMRC operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The following program description addresses Assessment, Structure, and Staffing; as well as individualized Treatment Plans, Nutrition, and Lasting Recovery.
LMRC was one of the first treatment facilities in the country to employ diagnostic and assessment criteria published by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. New patients receive a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment upon entering the LMRC residential treatment sequence.
This individualized patient assessment records the biological, psychological, and social elements of their addiction, and helps our staff members to create an individualized problem-oriented treatment plan. Customized treatment plans guide patients throughout their intensive inpatient and continuing outpatient care.
The LMRC program is structured to help alcoholics and addicts arrest chronic drinking and drug use and to preserve the dignity of the individual. Patients learn how the chronic and progressive nature of their disease impacts every aspect of their personal lifestyle. Our primary thrust is to help patients recognize that alcoholism is a primary, progressive disease, rather than any manifestation of a moral consequence, character weakness, or psychological dysfunction. We teach alcoholics and addict to approach their disease as a treatable condition with a high potential for lasting recovery. Patients leave inpatient treatment with skills necessary to maintain abstinence and restructure their lives.
Staff members integrate new patients by providing a lot of “TLC” and individual or group contact. Staffers act as patient advocates by maintaining contact with family members, doctors, therapists, and any others whom the patient wishes to involve in his or her recovery.
The LMRC program employs professional counselors, associate counselors, doctors, and nurses to implement an organized and comprehensive treatment experience. Patients seeking treatment may admit themselves or enter through any referral source.
Staff members identify patient problems based on the following criteria: an admission history and assessment; a complete social history; and a medical examination. Individualized treatment plans are then written with the input of medical, nursing, and counseling staff. The plan is a blueprint for recovery of patients and families.
Each of these staff disciplines use the same problem-oriented record-keeping system to chart a patient’s progress. All patients are consulted to revise treatment plans as needed. Counselors act as the primary case manager, while various staff members serve as a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
Patients learn that a sound nutritional regimen can significantly decrease cravings. For example, alcoholics and addicts must avoid eating refined carbohydrates, which can mimic the effects of alcohol in the bloodstream.
Once our patients stabilize their sugar metabolism, they can often expect a reduction in cravings, fatigue, depression, mood swings, and nervousness. Our staff members help patients enhance the quality of their sobriety by removing uncomfortable symptoms. In this way, good nutrition becomes an important tool for lasting sobriety.
Our program provides the alcoholic with tools for a lasting recovery; among them are participation in an AA/NA/CA program, recognition of increased self-awareness, and accountability in personal relationships. Lakeside-Milam’s highly structured milieu helps patients to increase self-awareness, accept personal responsibility, and recognize addictive behavior. Patients are encouraged to express emotions, share feelings, and vent anger. We help patients recognize that others feel the same confusion and that all are victims of the same addiction.
Medical Detox: Overseen by Lakeside-Milam’s full-time Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, and 24-hour nursing staff.
Focused lectures and groups designed to teach family members how the disease of addiction has affected them, what they can do to help themselves, and what they can do to support their loved one in recovery.
The recovery program for addiction is a life-long project. In the treatment phase of the LMRC program, the patient learns how to apply the tools as needed to live a comfortable life without the use of alcohol or drugs. In the continuing care program, the patient begins to use these tools in learning to cope with her or her appropriately planned lifestyle successfully.
LMRC provides services to persons and their families without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, religion, sex, sexual preference, age, or handicap. LMRC provides equivalent, clearly defined sleeping quarters and bathing accommodations for male and female patients, taking into consideration the unique needs of each gender.
