Intervention: We Can Help Confront Addiction
Confront addiction and help an alcoholic friend or family member through Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers drug and alcohol intervention services. Someone you know needs help. His—or her—alcohol abuse and drug using has gotten out of control, and is beginning to affect the rest of his life. He’s missing work, if he can still work at all. His family life is a shambles. He seems to be sick a lot. He just isn’t the person you’ve come to know and love. You’ve probably heard about intervention ads in the paper or on the radio. They all say it’s the best way you can get the help you need. But what is an intervention? How does it work? At Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers, we have some answers for you. Our caring, experienced specialists will tell you that an intervention is a way to confront people that are addicted to drugs and alcohol about the disease and get them the help they need and on their way to treatment and rehab. We’ll explain how an intervention can work—for everyone.
What You’ll Learn
At one of our free weekly intervention classes, you’ll learn about the disease of addiction and the signs of dependency. You’ll also learn about the stages of alcoholism including signs and symptoms. We’ll tell you how to stop feeling like a victim, take the power back, and take some action to help the addict get into recovery. We’ll show you how to set up an intervention and get the person into treatment.

But What If?
You’ve probably thought long and hard about taking the action to get information and help. It’s understandable to be a bit scared—you’ve taken a bold step.
But you may be wondering:
What if he (or she) finds out I’ve come here? Am I not being disloyal?
The answer to that is simple: You’re really being disloyal to him (or her) if you continue to avoid the problem.
What if he (or she) never speaks to me again?
We prepare you for the range of emotions that the addict may display at the intervention. Anger is simply a defense mechanism and a part of denial. If the person is treated successfully, you will be seen as a true friend who spoke the truth when others did not care enough to do so.
What if he doesn’t go for help?
At Lakeside-Milam, we believe an intervention always works, even if the person you’re trying to help still resists. Because you’ve taken the action and you’ve planted the seed in the alcoholic’s mind. He or she may come around later because you’ve communicated a very important message: You know—and now he or she knows that you know. There are no more secrets—and you’ve taken your power back.
Every Week of the Year At Lakeside-Milam, our intervention classes have been offered since 1983. Every week, we offer our free classes to everyone. We do this week in and out, year after year. Find out just how much you have in common with others in your situation and take comfort in knowing you are not alone. Take your power back and let us help you. Call us if you wish or just come to the class.
